Abstract

You are a bright, young scientist and you are (about) to have a PhD. Well-educated, skilful persons like you can look forward to good career prospects. What are your options? Immersed in academia, you certainly know what becoming a lecturer/principle investigator involves. But do you also know how to increase your chances for an academic career besides your publication record and winning grants? And what if you aspire a career outside academia? Visiting the BCF Event is a good start for career orientation. Continue with PCDI!
The Postdoc Career Development Initiative organises career development activities, specifically for PhDs in the Life Sciences throughout the year. PCDI also keeps you updated about other events relevant to early-career researchers. Come and hear what PCDI can do for you and your career and join the PCDI community for free.

Curriculum Vitae

Trained as a scientist, Chiat Cheong spent the first 11 years of her career performing academic research. She worked on cancer gene therapy across Europe for her PhD (2005) and later as a postdoc. Her interests in communication and project management drew her away from her London laboratory to PCDI, back in the Netherlands. In the position of project coordinator she combines her creativity, knowledge and communicative skills to enhance the professional development of early-career researchers. Not only she sets up and coordinates career orientation and development activities, currently she is also building an online community of postdocs and final year PhD students to encourage discussion about career matters.
