Abstract

Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health is a global leader in the research, development, manufacturing and sale of veterinary medicines. We offer one of the industry’s broadest, most innovative portfolios, spanning products for the prevention, treatment and control of disease in all major farm and companion animal species. We employ over 8000 people, have offices in more than 50 countries and sell our products in over 140 markets.
Our headquarters are located in Boxmeer, The Netherlands. This site is by far the largest biological R&D and manufacturing site in the Dutch pharmaceutical industry. With more than 600 employees (out of a total of 1700) with a higher professional or university education, it is a center of excellence for the development, technology, marketing and manufacturing of vaccines.

The culture within our company is pleasant and open. Creativity, personal development and innovation are highly valued. For me, this is exemplified by the fact that I have recently been enabled to pursue a PhD degree! The topic of my talk will be the how and why of vaccines; how they work, how they are produced and how do they save millions of lives every year. During or after my talk I would be happy to share my view with people who struggle with the question whether or not to do a PhD.
