Curriculum Vitae

Introduction
It helps to be noticeable since recruiters have little time to spent at each resume. Ensure that important issues such as relevant work experience stand out. Make sure you use keywords in your resume where recruiters search for on the internet when they want to find you and your specific competencies.

Certainly pick up the phone to ask if you are qualified for the vacancy in case the job description does not give a complete picture. This information can possibly be used in your cover letter.

Formatting tips
Your resume is your business card and the cover letter is an addition to your resume. Initially, your resume should be relevant, complete and legible. Make sure there is plenty of 'white' throughout the text. Align the text and also work with the 'tab' key. Whereby the overall looks structured and neat. Nowadays many recruiters search digitally. Therefore, choose a font / font size that can be easily read from the screen. Make a maximum two pages long resume in case you have you have little or no work experience.

Display of knowledge
Make sure your resume reflects the facts, but leave irrelevant facts out. Show your knowledge and capabilities in a readable way. It is important to make a 'new' resume for every application. Jobs differ so it gives you the opportunity to stress different experiences from your past. Place the focus in your resume on the jobs and tasks in the recent past that matter for your application. Mention your student jobs when you start applying for jobs. Do not stress those jobs anymore later in your career, unless they are industry related or you have developed important skills. You are allowed to change your resume constantly. However, make sure there are no gaps in your resume.

A picture is not necessary, because a recruiter only has the time to take a glance at your resume.  Use a picture if this could work in your favor.

 Core competencies
Hier kun je in een paar regels omschrijven waar je goed in bent, wat je wilt leren en waar je naartoe door wilt groeien. Recruiters kunnen dit dan gebruiken om snel te kijken of de kandidaat bij de organisatie past.

 Work experience

2009-heden

Function, company name, company location
Place your most recent job at the top (anti-chronological order). Give a brief description of the function and list the most important responsibilities. Write short comments in an active form. Also identify what you have achieved in this position to quantify your performance. Think about your contribution to targets or success such as a good customer satisfaction. If the job was not full time, point out the number of hours per week or FTE.
List all your jobs after graduation, hence you have no gap in your resume. Even if you have lots of experience. Only elaborate on relevant and / or recent functions. You don’t list student jobs and internships anymore then. You can create a hyperlink in your resume if you have worked for smaller companies. Give a short description of the specific employer if it is relevant for the job.

 Training and courses
2010-2011

You can start with this section if you do not have work experience. Place your last enjoyed official education at the top again. Also mention the dates.
You do not mention your primary school.
Name of education, level, institution name, location of the institute
You can name courses you have taken that might be relevant for the vacancy. In case you have little or no work experience mention the topic of your thesis / graduation project, because this says something about your knowledge and experience.

Place ‘not finished’ between parentheses if you did not finish a certain education.

 Internships
2010-2011 Company name, company location
Here you can continue the same style as in 'Training and courses' and 'Work experience' to describe your courses during your studies and point out what your tasks were. You can also place this under the section "Training an courses" or "Work Experience".
 Publications

It is good to name the titles of relevant publications if you are applying for an academic or research position. You do not have to be complete. Report that a full list is available on request or add it as a separate attachment.

 Language and computer skills
Languages (oral and written), computer skills (SPSS, graphics programs, etc.), skills in management, presentations, etc. can be mentioned in this section. Also indicate your level of speaking and written language separately: moderate, reasonable, fluently or if it is mother tongue.

 Extracurricular activities and additional information
Additional activities may give a better idea of how you are as a person. Be critical and only name relevant activities. Mention dates again. In the margin you can also specify how many hours a week you have exercised an extracurricular activity.

 References
If you have work experience, it is good to have references (from your direct managers) available upon request. Only state referees (and title, company) who have agreed. And know what they will say. You can also suffice with the phrase "References upon request".
